HAIR CARE TIPS FOR WOMEN

COMMON HAIR MISTAKES

1. NOT TRIMMING YOUR HAIR EVERY 6 WEEKS.

Try if you can to have your hair trimmed every six weeks, as the tip of each hair is weaker than the root, making it more vulnerable to split ends and breakage. Having the tips trimmed every 6 weeks helps to maintain the condition of your hair and its style.

2. WASHING HAIR ON A DAILY BASIS.

Using a mild pH balance shampoo is best if you have naturally oily hair. Washing your hair regularly strips it of its essential oils and can leave it brittle and dry. As we mentioned before, if you rub your scalp vigorously whilst washing, the oil glands are stimulated and they will produce more sebum.

3. RUBBING YOUR HAIR VIGOROUSLY WITH A TOWEL.

The hair cuticle is roughened by the action of rubbing you hair with a towel, and this can lead to frizzy, flyaway hair. Towel dry gently then blow-dry on a medium heat.

4. LEAVING SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER IN YOUR HAIR.

Do not leave shampoo or conditioner in your hair - make sure you rinse thoroughly! If your hair is not rinsed properly it counteracts styling products, leaving your hair looking dull and limp. Shampoo and conditioner that is not thoroughly rinsed out of the hair is the worst culprit for bad hair days.

5. BLOW-DRYING HAIR UNTIL COMPLETELY DRY.

There’s nothing more damaging to your hair than overheating it. Doing this makes it susceptible to breakage and strips it of its shine. The best way to dry your hair is to blow-dry it until its 80% dry and then let it naturally dry. Alternatively use a protective styling product or leave-in conditioner that looks after your hair while heat styling. Also, do not hold the hair dryer too close! Hold the dryer at least 30 centimetres away from your hair whilst blow-drying.

6. NOT USING PRODUCTS RECOMMENDED FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE.

Make sure you use the right product for your hair type! Many women misdiagnose their hair type and subsequently buy the wrong hair styling products. Using the appropriate product for your hair type will help to recreate that special salon style.

7. NOT USING A CLARIFYING SHAMPOO ONCE A WEEK.

It is worth noting that everyday pollutants cling to hair and leave a thin coat of grime that dulls and weighs down the hair. Using a clarifying shampoo once a week will give hair a residue free fresh start.

8. THINKING THE LATEST FASHION HAIR CUT WILL SUIT YOU.

Let's face it; not all of us women are stunning models. Not all of us can get away with the latest, trendiest, most fashionable hairstyle. May be that fashion cut can give you a worst look. It all depends on individual, their texture, their lifestyle, their quality of hair. Drastic haircuts take a long time to grow out, so be sure you want to take the risk before sitting in the char and letting your hairdresser go to work. Be specific and take lots of photographs to ensure you are getting the look you want.

HOW TO BLOW DRY HAIR STRAIGHT

Many women pay out a large amount of money unnecessarily to have their hair straightened, either on electrical equipment or at the hairdressers. The cheaper option without a doubt is to blow dry your hair straight, although many women are unsure how to do this. Read below for tips on how to straighten your hair during blow-drying using a few products and useful tools that are inexpensive

What do I need?

- A hairdryer

- A large round brush. The length of your hair will determine what size brush you will need. Most women who want to straighten their hair have at least shoulder length hair, and it is worth remembering that your hair needs to be long enough to wrap around the brush once.

- A large paddle brush for final smoothing the hair.

- Clips are required to keep hair out of the way, and recommended are large flat clips that hairdressers use.

- Styling products - that hold the style and protect your hair from moisture. Your hair will revert back to its natural wave if it is exposed to moisture, so products such as mousse will protect hair from moisture as well as heat damage.

- Gloss or serum should be used to smooth over hair, remove frizz and complete the straight appearance of your hair.

Instructions

Begin by washing your hair with a volumising range for women’s hair. Browse our Volumising range.

Remove any tangles with a wide-toothed comb. To get rid of excess moisture partially blow-dry your hair.

For added body use a small amount of mousse and try to work into hair from tips to ends, or alternatively spray a volumising tonic on your hair – this works just as well.

Using the clips pin hair up and take out sections at a time to blow-dry. Hold the styling brush in one hand and the dryer in the other.

Take the first section of hair, place the brush underneath it, and position it at the roots. It is important to retain the tension on the hair (firm but not tugging too hard) and move the brush down to the ends, at the same time directing the air flow down the hair, following the movement of the brush.

Using a round brush with a metal centre, blow-dry by winding the hair entirely up the brush, focusing on creating lift at the roots. Gently blast hair with a hair-dryer until dry. Browse our range of Hairdryers.

Curl the brush under at the ends of the hair to produce a slight bend. Continue this until the back parts of the hair are thoroughly dry, and then do the same to the top sections of hair.

Use a light, flexible hairspray for women’s hair to finish. Browse our range of HairSprays.

After a few times this will become normal practice! And practice makes perfect!!
